Travels in Turkey

Our walk on the St. Paul Trail.

The well

We refilled our water bottles at a well beside the trail. The guide book says, Muslims come to pray on the mountain near the well and use the water here to have their first meal after fasting. There was a set of poles for tying horses across the road from the well. The well was around 25 feet deep and the water was only about 8 inches deep, so he tied a rope to one of our hydroseal bags and placed a rock in the bottom for weight. He lowered the bag down into the water and dipped the sack up and down to “fish” for water. Then he pulled water he “caught” back to the surface. It took several times for us to get the water we needed. We treated all the water we collected from the well and the springs with our Miox, of course.
